Red Wagon Awards
Research shows – and experience proves - that academic achievement, civic engagement, and leadership development are all keys to a young person’s success – and that each impacts the others. We also know that recognition and celebration of a student’s accomplishments are crucial for continued success.
The Red Wagon Awards recognizes those young people who have demonstrated any or all of the following:
- Increased academic achievement
- Civic engagement & service
- Exemplary leadership
Who could nominate a young person? –
Anyone! Alliance partners of all types – nonprofit and community-based organizations, businesses, faith communities, government officials, educators, parents & families, AmeriCorps Promise Fellows – anyone who works with young people!
How were winners selected? –
A selection committee of Alliance staff, Youth Advisory Council members, Alliance board members, key partners, and AmeriCorps Promise Fellows evaluated each nomination and selected honorees.

SEVENTH ANNUAL RED WAGON AWARD RECIPIENTS HONORED!
The Minnesota Alliance with Youth, in conjunction with the office of Lieutenant Governor Carol Molnau, proudly presented the 7th annual Red Wagon Awards, September 9, 2009 at the Governor’s Mansion in St. Paul. The event was emceed by MN Alliance Co-Chairs Fayise Abraham and Mary Ackerman, and Lt. Governor Carol Molnau.
The Red Wagon Awards provided an opportunity to recognize and celebrate youth volunteerism and civic engagement throughout the state. Recipients were nominated for their civic engagement & service, academic achievements, and exemplary leadership. The awards were given to both individuals and groups.
This year, 12 individual winners and 2 group winners were selected by a panel of Alliance staff, board members, and members of the Alliance’s Youth Advisory Council. Individual winners came from St. Paul, Worthington, Lismore, Red Wing, Fulda, Minneapolis, New Brighton, St. Peter, and Maplewood. The group winners were given to the Northfield Union of Youth – The Key Youth Board and to the All That Mentoring Team at the Minneapolis YWCA. In addition, the University of Minnesota Extension and Center for Youth Development were recognized as a Star Partner.
