Katy Fiedler

PROMISE FELLOW OF THE MONTH
January 2010

Best Promise Fellow Experience (Thus Far): Katy enjoys working with students at her Promise Fellow sites: the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge, Funky Minds Non-profit, and East Union Elementary. This past semester she has enjoyed searching the prairie for insects, learning to fence from a local high school fencing prodigy, and exploring new teaching approaches to 3-digit multiplication problems.

Bio: After graduating from Edina High School, Katy ventured to Luther College to study elementary education and Spanish. She is an assistant coach for cross-country running and Nordic skiing at Edina. When not busy working, Katy enjoys visiting her mom, dad, sister, 99 year-old grandma, and dog for family dinner.

Favorite Quote: “Education might be more effective if its purpose were to ensure that by the time they leave school, every boy and girl should know how much they don’t know, and be imbued with a lifelong desire to know it.” ~Sir William Haley

Hobbies/Interests: Katy can often be found spending time outdoors skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, rollerblading, kayaking, birding, camping, or building snow creatures.

She has an insatiable case of wanderlust and has managed to visit 24 countries and just as many states in the past 25 years. This year she is staying closer to home and exploring local eateries while connecting with friends.

Throughout January you can find some of her favorite travel photographs on display at Sebastian Joe’s Ice Cream Café in Linden Hills, Minneapolis. Wherever she is and whatever she is doing you can find Katy with her camera in hand!

Hometown: Edina, MN
