2016 Youth Day at the Capitol
Youth Day at the Capitol 2016 was held on March 29th Youth Day at the Capitol (YDAC) provided both training and engagement opportunities for youth, youth workers, and school-age care professionals to participate in the legislative process. A feature on the day’s activities was highlighted on the America’s Promise Alliance blog (link).

District 3 Virtual Town Hall on Sex Trafficking with US Congressman Erik Paulsen
On Monday, April 20th, the 3rd district members of the MYC held a virtual town hall on the topic of sex trafficking. Dozens of participants logged on to listen and participate in the discussion with U.S. Congressman Erik Paulsen, author of the groundbreaking Stop Exploitation Through Trafficking Act of 201 that recognized prostituted children as victims of trafficking, not criminal perpetrators.
District 6 Town Hall on Teen Substance Abuse with Rep. Jim Nash
The 6th Congressional District Members of the Minnesota Youth Council, together with State Representative Jim Nash, High School Hockey Coach Doug Runke, and School Resource Officer Jeff Trick held a Town Hall on Wednesday, April 22nd, where they dug into their ‘School’s Climate’ and creating alternatives to ‘Teen Substance Use.’
District 7 Virtual Town Hall on Bullying
The Minnesota Youth Council’s District 7 members held a virtual town hall with Minnesota Department of Education Commissioner Brenda Cassellius to discuss bullying and the Safe and Supportive Schools Act. Questions from youth around the district ranged from prevention and parent involvement to implementation of the legislation. A recording of the event can be viewed HERE.
Amplify Youth Voice Virtual Town Hall
On November 22nd, youth in Minnesota’s 1st and 2nd Congressional Districts celebrated adults and organizations that amplified youth voice by posting images and words of thanks on facebook and twitter. Over 70 youth participated, adding their voices to the conversation.

Statewide Youth Summit: Ignite Youth Voice for Change (June 13th at Hamline)
Ignite Youth Voice for Change brought together over 250 youth and adults from across the state to engage in discussion and action around issues affecting youth. Julia Sewell inspired conference attendees with her keynote speech and the Minnesota Youth Council, Youthrive, Mentoring Partnership of MN, National Youth Leadership Conference and Know The Truth facilitated a variety of workshops.
Global Youth Service Day (April 12, 2014)
Minnesota Youth Council members Mario Chacon, Essence Blakemore, and Anna Phearman emceed this year’s Global Youth Service Day at the Mall of America. Youth council members and their adult partners rotated stations throughout the event to assist others in participating in service projects. Heather and Kristi Weller, council members from District 7, facilitated a service project for youth to create cards and letters to Veterans of our Armed Services, and Micaela Jacobson, a District 3 council member, facilitated a service project to create blankets for homeless youth through her non-profit Youth Hope Rising.
State of Using Premier (March 7th, 2014)
The MYC held the premiere of the documentary “State of Using” on March 7th at Sabathani Community Center with over 150 community members in attendance. Attendees had the opportunity to view the film and listen to a question and answer panel from the film subjects and their families.
