2021-22 AmeriCorps VISTA
August 2, 2021- August 1, 2022 (full time positions)
VISTA members build organizational capacity by strengthening and connecting existing resources and best practices to better serve youth, especially young people of color and young people living in poverty.
VISTA Service Locations and Applications:
The Minnesota Youth Council (MYC) is a collaborative of youth leaders that mobilizes their fellow middle and high school peers across the state to create equitable systems through youth-led outreach, education, and advocacy. As the only legislatively mandated student group of its kind in the country, these young people are leaders in their communities and across the state, leading the way with youth-centered systems change. Based on community input and surveys of young people, the Minnesota Youth Council members focus their impact on four issue areas: Health and Wellness, Environmental Justice, Education Equity, and Juvenile Justice. The Youth Representatives of the MYC partner with community organizations to create change across the state.
This VISTA will be the point person for cross communications on School – Housing in the Robbinsdale district working to get better communication, build understanding and networking so that our schools and housing work has deeper impact and greater breadth.The VISTA will also work on The Gallery Display in Hennepin County, coordinating this massive outreach project by assembling teams of volunteers to guide the topic, event, set up and tear down of the 92 foot gallery display.
Right Track addresses changing labor force demographics and education and employment disparities by connecting young people from cost-burdened homes to summer internships, training them for personal and professional success, and helping employers prepare for, recruit and mentor the next generation of diverse talent. The opportunity architect will collaborate with business, education, nonprofit leaders, local elected officials, and the Right Track team to expand the number of internship opportunities provided each year and create a system for young people to earn school credit while participating in their internship.
Serve with Saint Paul Parks and Recreation, where teen participation at recreation centers can be high, and Parks continues to look for new ways to engage kids ages 12 – 17. While teen participation in recreation programs continues to grow, Saint Paul Parks & Recreation is interested in completing a comprehensive outreach effort to gather input and ideas for new programs

Research best practices in music education; write curriculum; work with teachers and school leaders to implement the new curriculum, and develop frameworks for the school’s 6-12 music curriculum.
Seeking a data-driven, reflective, racially conscious, highly motivated, equity activist to work collaboratively with Teaching and Learning and the Professional development team.
This AmeriCorps member will effectively build a pipeline to employment for youth graduating from the program while ensuring evaluation and data collection is being completed accurately and on-time.
The Environmental Education Coordinator VISTA will serve as a capacity builder in the school community to increase educational equity and cultural relevancy within our school and community through environmental learning, both in and out of the classroom. The Environmental Education Coordinator VISTA will develop the environmental education program by reviewing past environmental education practices within the school, developing a curriculum scope and sequence for all grades, incorporating and researching best practices, developing and strengthening partnerships to provide innovative programming, and ensuring culturally-relevant environmental learning experiences across the school.
The Recess/Before/After School Coordinator will serve as a capacity builder in the school community to increase educational equity and cultural relevancy within our school and community through creation of systematic programming to better the programming that takes place before and after the school day. The aim of the project is for students to develop life-long skills and a deep understanding of the values of the school through additional programming and field trips and their responsibilities to its stewardship as Legacy Builders.
The Communications and Development Coordinator VISTA will serve as a capacity builder in the school community to increase educational equity and cultural relevancy within our school and community through environmental learning, both in and out of the classroom. The Communications and Development Coordinator VISTA will develop the new branding needed after rebranding last year with a new name. The VISTA will be serving to update all communication for the school, students and community that they will be serving.
Minnesota Education Equity Partnership uses a race equity lens to transform educational institutions, organizations, and leaders to ensure that students of color and American Indian students achieve full academic and leadership success. We envision a just society in which an equitable educational ecosystem ensures all students achieve their full potential. Achieving this vision would mean that race is no longer a predictor of educational success. Our AmeriCorps VISTA will create, strengthen and forge community partnerships and spearhead external communications.
The VISTA member will focus on the critical strategies by partnering with building staff and families to support implementing a robust multi-tiered system of support (MTSS). This work will be done through an equity lens. It will be embedded in our current practices, such as our work with Innocent Classroom, Second Step, Morning Meeting, etc. We identify the importance of seeing our students as individuals and supporting them as we get to know them deeper level. We recognize and remove barriers and partner with all stakeholders to ensure each student successfully and accesses their full potential. The VISTA staff member will be using Second Step as a foundation to teach explicitly, model, and coach students and classroom communities to create a result of capacity building. Finally, we realize that this work cannot be done in isolation and only within the school walls.
