    American Indian Magnet School (Saint Paul Public Schools) was created from the vision of elders and community members. Their goal was to provide an American Indian perspective and to welcome students of all backgrounds to a diverse school community. Our teaching approach is rooted in American Indian culture, traditions, values, history and art. We have a diverse staff that is reflective of our students and we work as a strong team to promote life-long learning in every scholar.

    Minnesota Online High School (MNOHS) is a small, public online high school open to any Minnesota resident in grades 9 – 12. Our mission is to engage, inspire, and educate the whole student for an options-rich future through a challenging, flexible, teacher-developed curriculum; with the encouragement of responsive faculty and staff; within a creative and supportive learning community. MNOHS’ geographically dispersed faculty, staff, students and families use technology to build learning relationships.     United Way of 1000 Lakes and Greenway High School, in partnership with AmeriCorps Promise Fellows hosted by the Minnesota Alliance With Youth, will deliver evidence-based programming in effort to reduce dropout rates. Alongside the academic interventionist we are ramping up our student supports through our Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) training this summer and it is crucial that we have the additional personnel to provide for intervention work with students. This position will enjoy an opportunity to not only work with students in need, but with a dynamic team of passionate and committed support specialists and teachers.

    wRight Choice is located in the lower-level of the Wright County Government Center.  Students who attend wRight Choice will focus on academic work, restorative measures, intervention and reinstatement back to school.  As part of the student’s day at wRight Choice, they will meet with the instructional leader to discuss how their behavior affected not only the student and the victim, but also others as well. Students may realize the impact their behavior has on the school, their family, and the community; an opportunity for guided reflection optimizes individual growth.

  • Community-Based Sites (Promise Fellow positions)

    American Indian Family Center will deliver the Gashki’ewizi! project, a component of the AIFC Waaban Ogimaawag (Tomorrow’s Leaders) youth focused programming that provides academic support services for middle and high school youth.

    This project will provide American Indian students with targeted intervention strategies delivered through culturally-specific service methods. These methods are grounded in the cultural teachings of the Medicine Wheel. The Medicine Wheel acknowledges the need for a balance between all aspects within a person. Within this approach, the Promise Fellow will seek to recognize the unique barriers faced by each individual youth in finding balance and wellness.

    YMCA (various locations): Are you interested in working with a diverse population of young people and building meaningful relationships? If you are looking into youth development, motivating cause driven leaders, and creating equity among students, then this is the site for you! The YMCA needs you to play an important role in after school programming in local middle schools, in branch teen nights and adventure club, and in service learning outreach in the community.  Tasks involve student and family engagement, curricula building and delivery, after school programming, in branch teen nights, community outreach and field trips, data management, research, administration, etc.
