Norse Area Learning Center (North Branch): The NORSE Area Learning Center in North Branch, Minnesota is a state approved alternative program for students that are struggling to graduate on time from high school. Rebound, Inc is dedicated to providing culturally specific services to youth in a residential setting, particularly African American youth of all genders ages 14-18+. Promise Fellows will help youth get enrolled in school, tutor and mentor them throughout the school year to help ensure that they will succeed in school. and develop educational outings and enrichment programs for the young people we serve.
Emma Norton Services is a trauma-informed organization that promotes healing and recovery, operating at a scale that brings a full array of resources to women, individuals, and families who have experienced homelessness. Big Brothers Big Sisters – Community Engagement VISTA – The VISTA member will work closely with the Manager of Community Engagement and Recruitment to create and strengthen processes and procedures to streamline recruiting at BBBS. The VISTA member will also help determine a logical and efficient division of labor between the Manager position and a future coordinator position. Finally, the VISTA member will help BBBS expand their reach in the community by identifying local partners and public events where BBBS can promote recruitment opportunities.
Big Brothers Big Sisters – College & Career Readiness VISTA- This VISTA will build the capacity of the College & Career Readiness and Alumni programs for expansion. Through program and process assessments, a program manual will be developed along with program expansion plans. The CCR and Alumni program manual will include not only program processes but also resources and training material around college and career readiness and persistence that help increase educational and career equity. The VISTA will develop and assess CCR program activities to ensure that youth equity and other Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion [JEDI] values are modeled and implemented, and that expansion plans are developed.
Children First – Early Years Coordinator VISTA- The VISTA member will help us launch a StriveTogether Network Cradle to Career educational partnership focused on closing opportunity gaps in St. Louis Park, MN. We seek to engage youth as change agents in our efforts actively. The VISTA will build an Early Years Action Group with a data-informed culture focused on population-level results and develop a community scorecard and partnership website.
Children First – Upper Grades & Post-Secondary VISTA- Children First was founded in 1992 on the principles of collaborative action and a shared community vision to enable the healthy development of youth around the research-based 40 developmental assets. CMRS – Stable Housing for Youth VISTA- CMRS’s mission is to develop the capacity of the community to respectfully resolve conflict and repair harm. We utilize this community empowerment approach as we work on addressing barriers to stable housing and school success. The VISTA will work alongside youth and educators in the schools community to help explore these questions, prevent homelessness, and increase housing stability. The VISTA will also utilize their learning to create outreach systems that help CMRS reach the wider community more effectively. They will work with a team to create and improve social media campaigns, email marketing, outreach events, and the website’s accessibility and appeal.
CMRS – School-Housing Advocate VISTA- Community Mediation & Restorative Services, Inc’s mission is to develop the capacity of the community to respectfully resolve conflict and repair harm. The VISTA will develop an understanding and skills in the principles of restorative justice practices, mediation, and conflict resolution. The VISTA will help CMRS strengthen practices, policies, and strategies rooted in community wisdom. They will work alongside our school, housing, and communication teams, experiencing a broad range of non-profit sector work.
CMRS – Restorative Justice and Mediation Evaluation VISTA- Community Mediation & Restorative Services, Inc’s mission is to develop the capacity of the community to respectfully resolve conflict and repair harm. feedback from the people who receive our services and are most impacted by the model and practices we use. This VISTA will bring fresh perspectives and ideas to help us check organizational blind spots. The VISTA will also bring together a group of young people who we serve. The VISTA will facilitate this group in order to learn about restorative justice, mediation, and CMRS. The group will have the opportunity to provide direct feedback and suggestions to a variety of stakeholders at CMRS and in the wider community
FamilyWise Services – Communication & Development VISTA- Since 1976, FamilyWise Services (FWS) has been educating and empowering families struggling with poverty, substance abuse, mental health issues, homelessness & domestic violence, with a mission to strengthen families by promoting the safety, stability, and well-being of children. FWS fulfills this mission by educating communities about a collection of research called NEAR science (Neurobiology, Epigenetics/ Historical Trauma, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) & Resilience research) so local champions can transform their understanding of how trauma impacts long-term health into action to support community resiliency-building efforts. The VISTA will primarily focus on expanding the breadth and depth of offerings as well as focusing on developing resources for the presenter network and community partners.
Hopkins Community Education – Schools & Community Connector- Hopkins Community Education is the north star of lifelong learning & enrichment for our community. We serve the community by welcoming all learners, honoring culture, and inspiring remarkable growth and achievement. The Schools & Community Connector VISTA will increase our capacity in reaching our department’s goal of providing equitable and inclusive settings for learners of all ages to discover, lead, and thrive. Main focus of the VISTA’s project includes: Expanding greater and more equitable community access to Community Education opportunities through the implementation of a robust communications, marketing, and social media infrastructure. Working with the Community Education team, a Youth Advisory Board, district leaders, and community stakeholders to rebuild the Hopkins Family Services Collaborative into a functioning, effective, action-oriented, and youth-centered collective of Hopkins Public Schools staff and community members.
Hopkins High School – Royal Connections Coordinator VISTA- The Royal Connections program has been providing direct academic support to teachers and scholars since we started the program in 2020. Royal Connections Instructors assist with lessons, read to scholars, and provide remedial 1:1 support. There is also a high need for tutoring within our district’s English Language Learner program (ELL). Peer tutoring can provide a safe space for ELL scholars to practice English with personalized support that is implausible in a regular classroom setting, while making an early connection to another Hopkins scholar to foster a more connected and inclusive community. The services provided by Royal Connections assists our Hopkins community to navigate these uncertain times by providing support for educational success, from the most seasoned teacher to our most vulnerable students
Junior Achievement North – Marketing & Communications VISTA- JA’s mission is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. Our K-12 programs empower students to be ready for the real world by showing them how to earn and manage money, excel in their careers, and apply entrepreneurial thinking to the workplace. Through a continuum of progressive learning experiences, students acquire competencies needed to reach their full potential. Junior Achievement’s unique program model leverages thousands of volunteers who deliver hands-on lessons to youth. JA serves students, educators, and partner schools throughout MN, ND, and western WI. The Marketing & Communications VISTA will help deepen JA’s ties and messaging across our service region. By building our marketing, branding, and messaging capacity, Junior Achievement will establish itself as a regional thought leader in experiential education, youth entrepreneurship, and career readiness.
Junior Achievement North – Development Operations VISTA- JA’s mission is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. Our K-12 programs empower students to be ready for the real world by showing them how to earn and manage money, excel in their careers, and apply entrepreneurial thinking to the workplace. JA programs align to three pathways: Financial Literacy, Work and Career Readiness, and Entrepreneurship. The Development Operations VISTA will build the prospecting and fundraising capacity of the organization. By identifying and securing revenue from new and increased donors, JA will impact more systemically excluded students and communities.
Junior Achievement North – Engagement & Equity VISTA- JA’s mission is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. A programs align to three pathways: Financial Literacy, Work and Career Readiness, and Entrepreneurship. Through a continuum of progressive learning experiences, students acquire the competencies needed to reach their full potential. The Engagement & Equity VISTA will play a pivotal role in building the long-term infrastructure for Junior Achievement’s goal of becoming a more inclusive organization. This position will work closely with the Engagement & Equity team, cross-functionally, and externally to build out longstanding processes, presentation and training materials, and external engagement materials. The Engagement & Equity VISTA will have the opportunity to make a direct impact on the students we serve, the staff, the organization, and the community.
Junior Achievement North – Special Events VISTA- JA’s mission is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. JA’s unique program model leverages thousands of volunteers who deliver experiential lessons to students. The Special Events VISTA will be both externally and internally facing, engaging a variety of constituents. This position will collaborate with event vendors and engage community members to increase the number of event attendees and visibility of the events. The Events VISTA will engage nonprofit partners who have developed successful materials and processes and will selectively incorporate their practices into JA North’s event implementation.
Minnesota Alliance With Youth – VISTA Leader-Minnesota Alliance With Youth VISTA program places members in nonprofits, government, and schools in the Twin Cities to create, connect, and leverage resources to address education inequities such as the opportunity and achievement gaps. We build capacity, coordinate efforts that bridge and build the integration of school and community-wide support for youth, and actively engage youth as agents of change in closing these gaps. Our 20 person cohort meets regularly for professional development, team building, and peer support. This position is placed internally at the Alliance. The role of the Alliance VISTA leader is to mentor, coordinate, recruit, and support the 19 other Alliance VISTAs across Minnesota as they work towards the ultimate goal of the program through their VISTA positions.
Minnesota Alliance With Youth – Youth Council Program VISTA- This position is placed at Minnesota Alliance With Youth, working with the Minnesota Youth Council. The Minnesota Youth Council (MYC) envisions a state that prioritizes the agency and voice of young people from all backgrounds. These young leaders are the go-to group in Minnesota for elevating and championing youth voice in decision-making. Members of the MYC are change agents in their communities and across the state, leading the way with youth-centered systems change. The MYC partners with community organizations to create change across the state, and MYC youth members are leaders in many coalitions working for change in MN.
St. Paul Parks and Recreation – Awakenings Program VISTA- The Awakenings program began in June of 2020. Our vision, mission, and purpose are: To interrupt the production pattern of trauma fueled youth into trauma fueled young adults; To provide a safe place where awareness and healing can begin, and To introduce youth ages 6-13 to age-appropriate language of trauma and mental health while using restorative practices. The Program Developer will create and implement critical elements of the program to ensure its success. The development and implement of evaluation tools, curriculum, and interns will support the youth group work done by the CFPS team.
St. Louis Park Community Ed – Volunteer Engagement VISTA– The Volunteer Program serves students and staff in St. Louis Park Public Schools from our earliest learners to our oldest adults in 4 Elementary schools, one Middle School, one High School and two Community Centers. Volunteers are uniquely positioned to work directly with students and staff to help bridge opportunity and education gaps so students can achieve academic success. The Volunteer Engagement VISTA will help assess, build, and sustain the Volunteer Program by recruiting, training and placing volunteers; creating partnerships in the community; and securing funding to sustain the program.
