Below are our open AmeriCorps positions. Positions are available statewide, in schools and community organizations!

Minnesota Alliance With Youth knows that ALL young people deserve equitable educational opportunities that foster their individual assets, honor their voices, and prepare them for high school graduation. We also know that racism and inequity are embedded in our current educational systems creating unfair barriers to learning that disproportionately impact students of color and students from low-income backgrounds.

The Alliance is an organization that strives to be anti-racist and is looking for AmeriCorps applicants that want to join us in this work. The following opportunities are available:

2021-22 AmeriCorps VISTA

August 2, 2021- August 1, 2022 (full time positions)

VISTA members build organizational capacity by strengthening and connecting existing resources and best practices to better serve youth, especially young people of color and young people living in poverty.

  • VISTA Service Locations and Applications:

    Minnesota Alliance With Youth- MYC Program Associate VISTA

    The Minnesota Youth Council (MYC) is a collaborative of youth leaders that mobilizes their fellow middle and high school peers across the state to create equitable systems through youth-led outreach, education, and advocacy. As the only legislatively mandated student group of its kind in the country, these young people are leaders in their communities and across the state, leading the way with youth-centered systems change. Based on community input and surveys of young people, the Minnesota Youth Council members focus their impact on four issue areas: Health and Wellness, Environmental Justice, Education Equity, and Juvenile Justice. The Youth Representatives of the MYC partner with community organizations to create change across the state.

    CMRS- Robbinsdale School- Housing Connections VISTA

    This VISTA will be the point person for cross communications on School – Housing in the Robbinsdale district working to get better communication, build understanding and networking so that our schools and housing work has deeper impact and greater breadth.The VISTA will also work on The Gallery Display in Hennepin County, coordinating this massive outreach project by assembling teams of volunteers to guide the topic, event, set up and tear down of the 92 foot gallery display.

    Saint Paul Parks and Recreation- Right Track Opportunity Architect VISTA

    Right Track addresses changing labor force demographics and education and employment disparities by connecting young people from cost-burdened homes to summer internships, training them for personal and professional success, and helping employers prepare for, recruit and mentor the next generation of diverse talent. The opportunity architect will collaborate with business, education, nonprofit leaders, local elected officials, and the Right Track team to expand the number of internship opportunities provided each year and create a system for young people to earn school credit while participating in their internship.

    Saint Paul Parks and Recreation- Research and Evaluation Analyst VISTA

    Serve with Saint Paul Parks and Recreation, where teen participation at recreation centers can be high, and Parks continues to look for new ways to engage kids ages 12 – 17. While teen participation in recreation programs continues to grow, Saint Paul Parks & Recreation is interested in completing a comprehensive outreach effort to gather input and ideas for new programs

    LearningWorks- Partnerships and Communications Coordinator

    Join LearningWorks to disrupt educational inequities across Minneapolis through our unique academic enrichment program. Bring your creativity to build our brand, tell our story, and grow our reach.

    Minneapolis New School of Music- Music Education Research & Innovation Coordinator VISTA

    Research best practices in music education; write curriculum; work with teachers and school leaders to implement the new curriculum, and develop frameworks for the school’s 6-12 music curriculum.

    Roseville Area Schools- Data Specialist VISTA

    Seeking a data-driven, reflective, racially conscious, highly motivated, equity activist to work collaboratively with Teaching and Learning and the Professional development team.

    Urban BoatBuilders- Program Development and Evaluation VISTA

    This AmeriCorps member will effectively build a pipeline to employment for youth graduating from the program while ensuring evaluation and data collection is being completed accurately and on-time.

    JJ Legacy Montessori- Environmental Education Coordinator

    The Environmental Education Coordinator VISTA will serve as a capacity builder in the school community to increase educational equity and cultural relevancy within our school and community through environmental learning, both in and out of the classroom. The Environmental Education Coordinator VISTA will develop the environmental education program by reviewing past environmental education practices within the school, developing a curriculum scope and sequence for all grades, incorporating and researching best practices, developing and strengthening partnerships to provide innovative programming, and ensuring culturally-relevant environmental learning experiences across the school.

    JJ Legacy Montessori- Recess/Before/After School Coordinator

    The Recess/Before/After School Coordinator will serve as a capacity builder in the school community to increase educational equity and cultural relevancy within our school and community through creation of systematic programming to better the programming that takes place before and after the school day. The aim of the project is for students to develop life-long skills and a deep understanding of the values of the school through additional programming and field trips and their responsibilities to its stewardship as Legacy Builders.

    JJ Legacy Montessori- Communications and Development Coordinator

    The Communications and Development Coordinator VISTA will serve as a capacity builder in the school community to increase educational equity and cultural relevancy within our school and community through environmental learning, both in and out of the classroom. The Communications and Development Coordinator VISTA will develop the new branding needed after rebranding last year with a new name. The VISTA will be serving to update all communication for the school, students and community that they will be serving.

    Minnesota Education Equity Partnership (MNEEP)- Communication Coordinator

    Minnesota Education Equity Partnership uses a race equity lens to transform educational institutions, organizations, and leaders to ensure that students of color and American Indian students achieve full academic and leadership success. We envision a just society in which an equitable educational ecosystem ensures all students achieve their full potential. Achieving this vision would mean that race is no longer a predictor of educational success. Our AmeriCorps VISTA will create, strengthen and forge community partnerships and spearhead external communications.

    Richfield STEM Elementary- Relationship Manager VISTA 

    The VISTA member will focus on the critical strategies by partnering with building staff and families to support implementing a robust multi-tiered system of support (MTSS). This work will be done through an equity lens. It will be embedded in our current practices, such as our work with Innocent Classroom, Second Step, Morning Meeting, etc. We identify the importance of seeing our students as individuals and supporting them as we get to know them deeper level. We recognize and remove barriers and partner with all stakeholders to ensure each student successfully and accesses their full potential. The VISTA staff member will be using Second Step as a foundation to teach explicitly, model, and coach students and classroom communities to create a result of capacity building. Finally, we realize that this work cannot be done in isolation and only within the school walls.

    Saint Paul Parks and Recreation- Environmental Program and Educational Analyst VISTA- POSITION FILLED

    The Environmental Programs and Education Analyst will help assess the current staffing structure across work divisions, review program budget allocations, and inventory current programs and activities to define a vision for how Environmental Programming and Education can be supported appropriately in the future.

    Urban BoatBuilders- Communications VISTA- Position FILLED

    This VISTA will be responsible for managing the overall development and communications efforts of the organization while working closely with other staff members.

    Children First- Park Partnership for Success Coordinator- POSITION FILLED

    This project will help launch an Early Years Action Group in a cradle-to-career educational partnership, build a results-based culture across partners, and develop a community scorecard and website.

    Community Mediation and Restorative Services, Inc. – Housing Stability VISTA- POSITION FILLED

    Community Mediation & Restorative Services helps individuals move from conflict to resolution and from harm to healing through respectful & confidential mediation & restorative justice processes.

    Join us to develop tools, processes, and resources to enhance equity in our community. Support equity audits, professional development, and student programs to build the capacity of Equity Alliance MN.

    Minnesota Alliance With Youth- Alliance VISTA Leader- POSITION FILLED

    The 2021-22 VISTA Leader will support a cohort of VISTAs across the state working to increase youth voice and close the opportunity and achievement gaps in Minnesota.

2021-22 AmeriCorps Promise Fellow

September 1, 2021- July 31, 2022 (20, 30 & 40 hours/week positions available)

AmeriCorps Promise Fellows serve as caring adults who support, mentor, and build positive relationships with young people in 6-12th grades on their path to high school graduation. Promise Fellows provide one-on-one and small group support to a group of students in a school or non-profit organization.

  • Promise Fellow- Metro Schools

    High School for Recording Arts: High School for Recording Arts has been working with opportunity youth for 20 years, engaging them by first asking, ‘what are you passionate about?’ It is from here, this exploration of interest and creativity, that we construct credit learning opportunities for our young people. Every day, Promise Fellows at High School for Recording Arts will have the opportunity to develop nurturing relationships with young people and help motivate them towards success through their creative pursuits.

    Independent School District 917: Are you interested in working in a community that supports diverse learners as they become healthy, strong, connected, and resilient young adults? Intermediate School District 917 serves students from nine school districts throughout Dakota County. With three Area Learning Sites we provide alternative education programming to meet the complex and unique needs of 200 students. We are looking for teammates to be strong advocates, empathetic coaches, and caring adults for the children who need us the most.

    White Bear Lake Area Schools: Join a team of leaders in innovative education at White Bear Lake Area Schools! Utilize your passion and experience to develop personal relationships and provide one-on-one supports that reengage and advance youth who are experiencing at-risk situations.     Waconia Public Schools: Interested in making a real, life-long difference in a young adults life? Join the Waconia Public School’s unbelievable team that works tirelessly every day making sure our students are exploring their passions while creating their own success.

    Saint Paul Public Schools: SPPS is looking for Promise Fellows to serve at the Academic Support Center, providing in-person academic and/or social-emotional learning support for students and their families during distance learning. The centers will provide academic support, not classroom instruction.

    Fridley Public Schools: As a world class community of learners, Fridley Public Schools aims to develop internationally minded students. We challenge ourselves, our students, and our community to become caring and knowledgeable life-long learners who inquire and take action to create a better world.

    Intermediate District 287: District 287 serves students with higher needs. Our Promise Fellows work with students in Alternative Learning Centers and also contribute to our Diploma On! project to re-engage students who drop from high school. Our team is wildly passionate and supportive, and we look forward to working together with you to combat the achievement gap!

    Laura Jeffrey Academy: Laura Jeffrey Academy was founded to help address the systematic decline of interest and skill for middle school girls in the areas of math, science and physical education. We are a public, girl-focused, STEM-focused school that strives to provide an empowering education for all our students. Come join our team of passionate educators!

    Black Hawk Middle School: Are you interested in joining a middle school dedicated to helping learners explore and realize their individual sparks and infinite possibilities?  BHMS is a vibrant, inclusive, accessible and student-centered community.

  • Promise Fellow- Greater Minnesota Schools

    United Way of 1000 Lakes/Greenway High School: Greenway HS is excited to have a full complement in the Student Services office this year including 2 counselors 5-12 and a full time social worker! Alongside the academic interventionist we are ramping up our student supports through our Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) training this summer and it is crucial that we have the additional personnel to provide for intervention work with students. This position will enjoy an opportunity to not only work with students in need, but with a dynamic team of passionate and committed support specialists and teachers.

    Watertown-Mayer Schools: Watertown-Mayer Middle School and High School are seeking individuals interested helping us work together to what’s best for kids!     Red Rock Central Jr/Sr High School: Red Rock Central Schools is a high-performing academic school located in thecommunities of Lamberton, Sanborn, Stordenand Jeffers in Southwestern Minnesota. We serve approximately 400 students in grades K-12.  Preparing Today’s Youth…For Tomorrow’s Challenges.

    Minneapolis American Indian Center: The Ginew/Golden Eagle Program of the Minneapolis American Indian Center has been changing the lives of American Indian youth for 25 years. If you are committed to addressing the historical trauma impacting Indian youth, and the resultant social, economic and health disparities, and you want to meet some great kids facing big challenges, join our team for 2018-19.     Keystone Community Services: If you believe in the power of community, Keystone’s Community Kids is the program for you! Our students attend public, private, and charter schools; then they all come to our Community Center after school. They receive daily homework help and tutoring, and connect with youth and neighbors from their community. Our students love coming here and you will too! You will have the opportunity to mentor youth in a highly diverse, collaborative environment.     Legal Rights Center: Are you interested in serving with a team of highly committed youth advocates at a community driven non-profit law firm? Would you like to learn more about restorative practices and how they can help students repair harm, re-engage with their education and find meaningful solutions to challenges? If you are interested in educational equity, juvenile justice and youth advocacy, we would love to have you!

    REACH Mentoring: Are you interested in serving where your day-to-day interactions with youth make a direct impact? If you have an interest in mentoring, restorative practices, social justice, or youth development; and are looking to bring positive role models into the lives of young people: to build self-esteem, meaningful relationships and a sense of belonging within themselves, their families, their school, and our community. Then work with REACH Mentoring Program in meeting its organizational goals of building protective factors in youth that will lead them to thrive in their community.

    Youth First Community of Promise: Are you interested in being a part of community change for young people? Do you believe that all youth deserve an opportunity to have safe spaces, caring adults, a healthy start, effective education, and opportunities to serve others?     Boys and Girls Club of the Northland (Duluth): Boys & Girls Clubs of the Northland will deliver evidence-based programming at our two Duluth sites in effort to reduce dropout rates. Interventions will be guided by implementation of the Check & Connect student engagement model, one of the top rated dropout prevention programs in the U.S. Department of Education’s What Works Clearinghouse
